On a largely partisan vote, the United States House of Representatives passed HR 1586 247-161 with 25 members not voting. A good portion of this bill is funded through closing a tax loophole for multi-national businesses whose base of operation is in the United States. It's not surprising the Democrats would vote to close a tax loophole in the name of generating revenue.
What is surprising, though, is that $10 billion of the bail-out comes from budget reductions in food stamps.
What sense does it make for a party who claims to be the self-proclaimed champion for the poor and disenfranchised to reduce drastically the amount of money given to the poor?

Rep. Kind Verbally Volleys with Voters in Sparta
Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a listening session Rep. Ron Kind held at the community center in Sparta. An estimated 25-30 voters from Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District were in attendance.
Among the topics raised by concerned citizens included: Social Security, Medicare, the economy, health care, and abortion.
Congressman Kind hardly strayed from his boyish charm when giving account of what he was doing on Capitol Hill to represent his constituents. When he responded to those who supported him, the charm factor increased. He seemed to have an iridescent glow on his face while being praised for his work in D.C. However, that iridescence faded to irritation when struck with questions on abortion, Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters, and term limits. Kind proved himself to be the expert of political dodgeball. That's unfortunate. There's a high level of personal accountability the hoi polloi expect from their congressional leaders. That personal accountability was missing from Congressman Kind's remarks.
Feel free to leave comments on this page. I do ask that you refrain from profanity, threatening behavior, or personal attacks. Otherwise, your comments will be delted and you will be blocked from commenting. I prefer civil discourse over caustic rhetoric. Thank you for keeping this blog a family-friendly site.

Welcome!
Welcome to Use Your Gray Matter!
With the 2010 campaign season getting into full-swing, this blog has been created to examine where the candidates stand on the issues with specific focus on Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District.
I have been in contact with Republican Candidates Bruce Evers and Dan Kapanke and Independent Mike Krsiean. I'm hoping to get feedback from Incumbant Ron Kind's campaign on where he stands on issues that have a direct impact on the electorate in the 3rd District.
Check back for updates!
I will post updates as soon as I am able.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I hope you are looking forward to finding out how the WI-3 candidates are "using their gray matter" on your behalf.
